Map Marketplace: FAQ


Q. How much do I make off of each sale?



A. 30% is paid to you on each sale. Portions paid to Maps.com cover all marketing, production, customer service and fulfillment. Our average order for products submitted through Map Marketplace is $105, which means $31.50 to you on an average sale.


Q. How often am I paid out on my Map Marketplace sales?



A. Payments are made to you every month- 45 days after the close of the month. For example, October payments will be mailed by December 15th.


Q. Can I see my earnings before the payment is sent out?



A. Yes. Map Marketplace features real-time reporting that instantly tracks all sales you make.


Q. Am I selling my content to Maps.com or do I remain the owner?



A. You retain the rights to your product completely. By submitting your products to Map Marketplace, your content is not being bought or licensed.


Q. What is POD or Publish on Demand?



A. Publish on Demand is a technology we use to fulfill orders for product on an as-needed basis. Using our high speed plotters and laminators, it is possible to take your product from digital file to finished product the same day it is ordered by consumers. The benefit to you is zero upfront printing costs or risk when bringing a product to market.


Q. Does Map Marketplace accept pre-printed inventory on consignment? Can I sell my pre-printed atlases or folded maps? Can I ship these items from my location if I have them?



A. No. Currently your content can only be sold as Publish on Demand or Digital File Download through the Maps.com website. Consignment of your inventory may be considered in a later version of Map Marketplace.


Q. What are the requirements for each product submitted?

Q. How do I get my products on Maps.com?



A. It's easy. Register for a Map Marketplace Seller account and then submit your product information online. Your product will undergo our review process and we will notify you with approval.


Q. What are the qualities that get a product approved?



A. There are many aspects to product approval. Each and every product submitted enters an extensive review process. Quality of cartography, completeness, uniqueness, descriptions, images, and marketability are all thoroughly reviewed and considered when determining approval.


Q. My product wasn't approved. Why?



A. If you have received notification that your product was not approved, along with it will be specific reasons why. We encourage you to edit and resubmit the product based on that feedback and then approval will be likely.


Q. Do I ever have to deal with the customers who buy my maps?



A. No. All Customer Service, production, order fulfillment and product support is completely handled by Maps.com.


Q. How would Maps.com handle returns or unsatisfied customers?



A. As with every product on Maps.com, Map Marketplace products carry a 30 day money back guarantee. If one of your products is returned, we subtract the amount paid to you.

A. A majority of your sales will come from our extensive experience with e-commerce web marketing. Our dedicated Map Store earns over a half million visitors and thousands of buyers every month. Your product pages will be visible to search engine traffic and may be promoted on approved Maps.com affiliate sites, featured in outgoing newsletters, email campaigns and other marketing initiatives.


Q. How can I help to increase sales on my product?



A. Map Marketplace features a custom Showcase Builder that will automatically build pages with your entire product line for use on your own website. You can use this tool to create effective links on your website that will turn your visitors into buyers. Also, once your product is approved, it will have a unique URL that you can post or promote in any way you wish.
