Classified Concepts Names Peter Sproul National Sales Manager

Santa Barbara, CAClassified Concepts, the leading solutions provider for print and online newspaper classified advertising, recently announced that Peter Sproul, one of its most highly accomplished sales executives, has been named National Sales Manager. In this position, Sproul will be responsible for establishing all Corporate and Media Group pricing and customized programs for the firm.

Sproul understands the need and use for Classified Concepts revenue generating locator map programs from both sides of the business. As an avid reader of his local paper, The Santa Barbara News-Press, he understands how readers rely on their local newspaper to be the source for anything and everything community oriented. During his search for a new home in 2002, Sproul turned to his local resources to assist him in his weekend open house search. While the paper offered the best information on homes available, he found himself needing to reference local maps to locate them. Then it came to him: "Why not put the two together?" By combining the power of Maps.com's professional cartographic services with the needs and wants of the News-Press' classified team, the concept of Open House Locator Maps was created, and hence, Classified Concepts was born.

"I didn't realize at the time how perfectly positioned we were for leveraging this side of our mapping business," says Sproul. "With the newspaper industry's need to be creative in developing their print advertising campaigns and launch online services that could keep up with others, like Craigslist, we had certainly arrived at the right place at the right time."

One of the many services Classified Concepts offers is to plot its advertisers' locations on maps. "For example," Sproul explains, "our clients send us the locations of all their open house listings and we convert the file into customized maps that are completely diagramed and coded and ready to go to press. In addition," he says, "we provide an online version to service each paper's web-based audience — truly driving readers to advertiser locations, and in this case, open houses."

"While everyone in the industry would agree there is no 'short-cut' to the top," says, Sproul "we work daily to provide the best solutions for our clients and deliver the benefits they expect — increased revenue and readership for both their print and online classified advertising channels." In more recent years, Classified Concepts has expanded its offerings to include locator programs for Garage Sales, New Builders, Rentals, Entertainment Guides, and even reverse publishing of Cars.com auto directory feeds, and currently works with over 100 U.S. and Canadian papers.

Most recently, Sproul has been instrumental in working at the corporate level with The McClatchy Company and Lee Enterprises to make the Classified Concepts programs even more accessible to their papers. "I look forward to exploring new opportunities with other national and regional newspaper groups and am excited to introduce and deliver our unique programs to them."
