Maps.com Launches MAP CATALOG A New Product and Revenue Source for Book Stores

Santa Barbara, CA — Maps.com, the world's largest online map store, has just launched its Map Catalog program, a service that provides access to an untapped source of revenue for book stores by allowing them to offer their customers a wide variety of maps and geography supplies through their website.

Maps are one of the most searched for content type on the Internet. World events, business planners and travelers are all major drivers of map purchases.

"Despite the demand, maps are most often a sideline in bookstores, yet customers still expect their local book seller to carry a wide variety of maps and travel guides," states Henry Poirot, consultant and independent contractor for Maps.com, "Map Catalog is an easy, efficient and profitable solution to truly enhance the bookseller's selection of titles and resources. For example, if your customer needs a travel map of Juneau, and cannot find it in your store, the bookseller can now refer the customer to the store's website, where they can browse thousands of titles offered in Map Catalog — instead of losing that business to sites like Amazon.com."

Map Catalog works as a partner site with a bookstore's web site, meaning that Maps.com hosts Map Catalog and customizes it to integrate seamlessly into a bookstore's website. It is also fully compatible with BookSense.com and BookSite.com. Map Catalog offers more than 10,000 different titles, including wall maps, globes, travel and reference atlases, games, puzzles and folded travel products. The bookstore is not required to keep any inventory in stock, or pay any up-front fees, but automatically receives 25% of the revenue from any products sold through Map Catalog.

The Tattered Cover, Boulder Book Store, Skylight Books, Distant Lands, and Book House of Stuyvesant Plaza, are the first book stores to sign up for the service, and are in the process of integrating Map Catalog into their respective web sites.
