The air is getting crisper and pumpkins are starting to show up everywhere. Halloween is upon us, and for millions of kids (and adults) worldwide, that means candy! And lots of it.
This animated map highlights the most popular Halloween candy in each US state according to CandyStore.com. It also shows how much candy has been sold, so you can compare which states have the biggest sweet tooth.
It’s a fun way to explore (and potentially shame) regional tastes across the country. Across the map, 19 different candies rank as a given state’s favorite. Staples like M&M’s and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups show up often, with some off-beat choices like Lemonheads and candy corn mixed in.
On a per-state basis, California leads the way with a staggering 1,616,992 pounds of M&M’s. Texas follows with 947,426 pounds of Sour Patch Kids. Arizona’s 802,972 pounds of Hershey Kisses comes in third overall.
Keep these in mind as you’re out hunting for treats or reviewing your family’s haul this year. From all of us on the Maps.com team, we wish you a safe and happy Halloween. Now go get that candy!
