Maps.com exists to recognize and celebrate remarkable maps and the cartographers behind them. To that end, it is imperative that all creators are appropriately credited for their maps, images, animations, videos, etc. (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Content”) and are given the opportunity to grant permissions for the use of that Content.

Generally, Content displayed on Maps.com falls within four categories:

Maps.com originals

Created exclusively by us at Maps.com and noted as original. You may use this Content with attribution under a Creative Commons CC BY-NC-ND 4.0/ license.

Content from Esri

This Content is produced and owned by Esri and is governed by Esri’s media use policies.

Content submitted to Maps.com

We solicit and publish Content created by others. We refer to these as submitted maps. This Content cannot be republished from Maps.com. Individual creators should be contacted about the use of their Content.

Content in the Public Domain

Content created by government agencies or other individuals or groups may be in the public domain. Such Content may be used, but we strongly encourage referring to the originating governmental agency or creator and accommodating their requests for how the Content should be properly attributed.
